  • Overview:

    Connexus Energy is a progressive company that provides electric service to customers in a 7-county area north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.  We are seeking an individual with strong analytical skills to support our Engineering and Operations teams.  This position will assist these teams in operating, maintaining and designing the electric distribution system and substations.


    The internship is a temporary position requiring full-time hours during the summer of 2019 with the possibility of part-time hours during the 2019-2020 school year.


    Connexus Energy offers a competitive wage and friendly work environment.  This temporary position is not be eligible for benefits or relocation at this time.

    Key Responsibilities & Results:

    1. Assist in the design of Connexus Energy’s distribution system by providing technical support to the Engineering and Operations departments.
    2. Operate distribution system modeling software to run power flow, capacity, and voltage drop studies.
    3. Complete and edit construction specification drawings using computer aided drafting software.
    4. Edit and perform as-built changes to substation drawings and control schematics using computer aided design software.
    5. Provide data entry and validation for various systems such as the outage management, SCADA control and GIS mapping.
    6. Prepare project release documents specifying the engineering of distribution system improvement projects.

    Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Enrolled in and pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a power emphasis
    • Completed introductory circuits course(s) 
    • Proficient computer and Microsoft Office skills (Excel)
    • Ability to read and create technical diagrams and schematics
    • A valid Driver’s License

    Preferred Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:

    • Familiarity with electrical wiring
    • Basic knowledge of electricity
    • Ability to use drafting software
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
